ANYTHING FOR SELENA WEEKEND
That phrase was the #anythingforselenas weekend. I was there to spend time with my dear friend who lives in California, she was there more for Selena than me.
SELENA MAC MAKEUP OFFICIAL LAUNCH
That’s the reason we were all there. Our friend @MacGirlProblems is a MAC professional makeup artist. She absolutely loves what she does and it shows. She won a contest to be able to be one of the artists to be at the Selena MAC makeup launch in Corpus Christi.
SELENA’S FORMER HOUSE
It’s not part of a tour or anything. I felt a bit bad but my Selena obsessed friend wanted to see it. So we just drove by it. It’s still sad, because you imagine Selena having a happy normal life although she was a major celebrity and it was all taken away.
My friend you can say has one of my traits, obsessive. So Saturday with us accompanying her to get a Selena MAC inspired tattoo. She was recommended to Axis Tattoo and she loved Michael Cesares and the rest is history.
This is a must on the Selena tour. I’m not the type of person that likes visiting gravesites, I believe that the person that you loved is gone. Visiting a gravesite doesn’t make them come back. Maybe I got this thought from my mother, she always said to show her love while she was alive not when she was gone and she didn’t want a gravesite.
The reason however I say it’s a must for the Selena fans it’s because she is still so loved after so many years after her death. You can see people come and go, bring her gifts and flowers from everywhere.
Now this was not a place that I wanted to visit. It’s a bit eerie for me. I think no matter what the bad energy is left there after such a tragic death. But my Selena obsessed friend HAD to. She ended up meeting someone who worked there that told her the backstory of what happened that day. I think no one will ever forget that day, especially a Corpus Christi local who loved Selena so much and worked at a place that she was taken from.
This had to wait until our last day in Corpus Christi because they are only open Monday through Friday. I will highly recommend visiting the museum.
Since we arrived in the parking lot until we left we felt everything Selena. There is so much memorabilia there that it feels like she had more time than she actually had. It’s still very sad but if have any interest in Selena you should visit. We were lucky enough to be there when her father was there. He came out of his office and offered us a private tour through the entire place. It was icing to the already delicious cake!
REASON I WAS THERE: WHERE TO EAT IN CORPUS CHRISTI
Not that we had many choices on where to eat since it seems everything closes early in Corpus Christi. Maybe someone can tell me the reason for this. I did have a list of all the places we were recommended or heard that were must go to places.
- SILVERADOS SMOKEHOUSE
- ANDY’S COUNTRY KITCHEN
Good Old Town Country cookin! (Hubby’s words)
- HI HO
Tasty Tex Mex food and a stop for Selena fans
OUTSIDE ART & SCULPTURES
The more research I did the more photographs and blogs that I would find all these interesting sculptures. The artist in me ofcourse I wanted to see them up close.
- DEVIL SCULPTURE
A bit over rated by several bloggers but glad no one told me, that I saw it for myself. First of all let me warn you it seems that none of the locals know about it because they would looks at us confused when we would ask for directions to find it.
It’s in front of Gray’s recycling company on 4719 Leopard street. It is nowhere near any of the touristic area.
- SURFING JESUS
This Jesus sculpture is located at the First United Methodist Church. This is right by the boardwalk and surrounded by all the touristic area.
- TX & AM WAVE
More of a drive to get here but at least you get to sightsee to get to this beautiful sculpture. I wanted to see it at sunset but it just didn’t work out that way. I saw some amazing photographs of this lovely piece with the sun and it was gorgeous.
- DANCING SIREN
This sculpture is also known as the Wind Dancer. It is located in a little park overlooking the water. Its is a nice place to rest after walking around. It was hard to get a photograph because there is always people around.
- LOTERIA MURAL
I wanted to see this mural that is part of the KSpace Contemporary gallery. Located: 619 Chaparral Street next to Ellison Law Office Parking lot. It has an interesting story of how it was created. Visit the KSpace Contemporary website for the full story.
Make sure you check out how my little planning notes for Corpus Christi Road Trip began…
